More than half the symptomatic patients who tested negative for Covid-19 in an antigen test later came positive with the realtime PCR method, reveal findings from two major civic laboratories. This underscores the high rate of false negatives in rapid antigen testing, which started this month under BMC’s ‘Mission Universal Testing’ plan. For instance, 60% of 538 symptomatic who tested negative in antigen tests at Nair Hospital, came out positive when retested under RTPCR. At Kasturba, the finding was reversed for 65% (28) of the 43 patients.
